Pattern Review: Opal Knit Flutter by Tie Dye Diva

Hi!

We did it again! Many sewing pattern designers got together for another Pattern Swap where we interchange out patterns and sew a sample to share with our readers.

This time I've got the chance to try one of the amazing patterns from Tie Dye Diva, Opal Knit Flutter.

I sewed up the tunic version in size 7/8 which was the perfect fit. I made it about 3 inches shorted than suggested so it turned out more like a top. I love it! It is perfect for the upcoming summer days (South America here), pretty and comfortable to wear and play.

The pattern is great, with clear instructions and clear, very useful color pictures that I could totally sew the garment just by looking at them. It includes very useful information on seams and hemming and top stitching, I'm not very used to work with it so this information was great for me.

New sewing pattern: Rosette's dress

The last sewing pattern from Lily Bird Studio was released some weeks ago, Rosette's dress.

This is the perfect summer dress, with wide skirt, a comfortable shirred waistband and elastic straps. You can dress it up or dress it down with your fabric of choice.

Pattern Review: Dressage Leggings by Jennuine Design

 

I had the pleasure to try the Dressage Leggings by Jennuine Designs for the Designers Pattern Swap series, you can read more about this at Pattern Revolution. As a designer myself this is the first time reviewing someone else sewing pattern and it was fun!

From the gorgeous collection from Jennuine Designs I picked out this pattern because it uses knit, which I have little experience with, and I'm so glad that I did it, I really learned a lot on sewing with knits from the so many tips including in the tutorial, and I even got encouraged to finish some personal projects with knits that had been sitting for a while!

At first I wasn't sure how everything would turn out because my daughter doesn't like wearing (let alone pose with) any kind of pants unless it has a skirt attached to it, but to my surprise she LOVED this leggings and was happy to pose for photos :)

The pattern includes 2 options, regular leggings and the one I sewed up with the inset panels that looks like riding pants.
For me that I'm not used to knits it was so much help that the designer included specific instructions on how to choose the correct fabric, as well as a stretch guide.

Sizing
My daughter wears pants size 7 so I sewed a up a size 7 and the fitting was perfect, they were slightly short but she is a skinny and very tall girl so I should have made them a little longer as I usually do.

Pattern pieces
The pattern is clear, with color and pattern coded lines for each size. There are a lot of pages to print but it is great that the designer included which pages to print for each legging option and the several sizes so you don't need print the whole thing, I loved that!



Tutorial
The instructions are very well explained and uses super clear drawings, I could mostly sew the leggings by looking at the images only!
It includes everything I would think I need to sew up this leggings and when I had any doubt I would find the response right there. It was a great experience and we loved the leggings!

Just like the previous version for babies, this dress is very simple with some important details such as front and back reverse plates and wide, gathered pockets. This dress can be worn alone or layered with a shirt or t-shirt.
The older girl version includes 2 length option to make a dress or a tunic.

It features a high waist, the skirt has a big reverse pleat at the front, and two reverse pleats and two single pleats at the back. It closes at the back with an invisible zipper. This dress can be sewn with the contrasting pockets or simply use the same main fabric for a different style.

Instructions on how to apply piping between the bodice and skirt and around the pocket are included as  an option, now available on baby sizes too!
